It has been quite a while since I have had the opportunity to offer a post on this site. I must say that I am very proud of the shape it is taking.
I would like to introduce a new book by Sir Fredrick Fingerlord, The Defiler’s Desire, that offers a contemporary spin on Marquis de Sade’s analysis of the power that desire exerts upon our psyches. With lyrical prose such as, “The end of the chase is the beginning of the end of the desire for that which was pursued,” Fingerlord takes us to a place deep inside to investigate the true meanings of our hopes and fears.
We are romanced with delightful nuggets such as ”statement” is the English translation from French énoncé (that which is enunciated or expressed). “Énoncé” means that which makes propositions, utterances, or speech acts meaningful. In this understanding, statements themselves are not propositions, utterances, or speech acts. Rather, statements create a network of rules establishing what is meaningful, and it is these rules that are the preconditions for propositions, utterances, or speech acts to have meaning.
Wow ladies and gentlemen. Go read this book.

I have heard a joke yesterday that must be shared. Prizes may be awarded to the most egregiously astute responses (that use epistemology for instance) as well as for the correct answer in the comments section. Please feel free to ask for additonal information that you might need to answer this question.
Why did the beautiful and elegant model sit all morning staring at her glass of orange juice?

I like watches. And I want you to like them too. I start a series on fine watches to explain why they are so important to me. There are very many distinguished watchmakers, most of them European that have hundreds of years of history. Examples are Patek Philippe, IWC, Rolex, and many others. I will speak of these traditional manufacturers later, and I begin by introducing a revolutionary watch that I want very much. It is the Richard Mille, a new make that uses the most technologically advanced materials known to Europeans. It is stunning and it is rare. I provide images of several models including a tourbillon wristwatch, developed in conjunction with Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa. Maybe you find it as beautiful as I do.

I recently heard of a new magazine which is very elegant in movation. Its name is Monocle and it covers the ABCDE’s (Affairs Business Design Culture Editorial) of life for the well-heeled and intelligent audience. Led by Wallpaper founder Tyler Brûlé, the team has a strong background in politics, pop culture, business affairs, media, architecture and design. The team works from London and but has dedicated groups in Tokyo, Zürich and New York to ensure its global presence.
Monocle also has videos and other content available on the web. See this map of freshwater stress from its Affairs section. Note that US and most of Europe had already withdrawn 10-20% of local fresh water by 1995 and that percentage rises to 20-40% by 2025. That’s EVEN if the water supply is used judiciously.
I haven’t seen Monacle yet but have high hopes if it’s in anything in quality like Wallpaper. Subscription businesses are very difficult but I hope this one succeeds because I would like to read it.
